Trauma Informed Practices

This session aligns Social Emotional Learning to Trauma Informed practices. In this session, teachers will define trauma and its effects on students. They will understand how to notice triggers,​ while building an inclusive learning environment. Teachers will increase awareness about strategies to build a trauma-informed classroom​ and understand how to​ be responsive to students’ needs and emotional well-being.


Audience: Teachers and other support professionals who work with students  (co-teachers, social worker, psychologist)

Learning Experience

  • Participants define trauma and its implications on students’ wellbeing and learning. They take a look at an example and analyze it together before learning about the relationship between SEL and trauma-informed practices. 
  • Participants explore practices that Build an Inclusive Classroom.
  • Participants will explore strategies for building an inclusive classroom while supporting individual students who have experienced trauma. 
  • Participants examine scenarios and collaborate with teams to build a plan for students within the scenario. 
  • Participants will create a personalized plan to support students who experience trauma and a plan for building an inclusive classroom.
